Can you believe that Samara is 3 months old already? These past few months have been so much fun as we've all adjusted to being a family of 5. Of course, we've had our ups and downs (Dayson is 2 you know), but everyday brings many new blessings.
Samara now weighs around 13 1/2 pounds and is 22 3/4 inches long. These are just estimates since she hasn't been into the doctor's office to get the 'official' measurements. She is by far our best sleeper. About 50% of the time, she will sleep through the night. And when I say that, I'm meaning that she's sleeping about 8 hours in one shot. The other 50% of the time, she gets up once to get a quick snack and then goes right back to sleep. Not only does she sleep well, she puts herself to sleep at night instead of needing someone to rock her or me to nurse her to sleep. I sometimes ask BJ if she's really ours. Most of you know the struggles that we had with Dayson when it came to sleep. I prepared myself for much of the same this time around and have been in complete shock at the difference between the two. I can put her to bed awake when I know it's around the time she normally takes a nap or goes to bed at night and within a very short time (with no crying), she's asleep! Amazing! ☺
This is how you will find her most of the time. Laying on her side with her pointer finger in her mouth. Most of the time she has her left hand holding her right hand to keep that finger in. If it's not doing that, then she's covering her eyes with it, it's very cute. This is her preferred method of soothing herself. She won't take a pacifier and as yet, we haven't been able to get her to take a bottle. I'm ok with that, just hoping that maybe she'll take a bottle when she gets a little older so that BJ and I can go on a date by ourselves without having to worry about hustling home quickly because she's hungry.
When put on her tummy, you can guarantee that within a very short time, she will start to fuss. She's not a fan. We try a couple times a day and she does well at lifting her head, but it is not her favorite exercise. It's been a little weird to me to actually have a baby that does not want to push herself to the next stage. With both Dayson and Iyana, I couldn't slow them down when it came to reaching the next milestone. It seemed like they were always wanting to be ahead of everything. This time around I may actually have a little baby for a while who just wants to be a baby, totally fine with me ☺.
Still haven't gotten a true laugh out of her yet but she's trying really hard. We get lots of smiles and she 'talks' to us frequently. Her favorite thing to do is to try and imitate us when we make certain sounds or try to move her mouth or tongue just like us.
Funny story that happened yesterday. We recently got our swing back and she has been enjoying it. While watching her yesterday, we saw that she was starring at the side of the swing smiling and trying to laugh. This went on for a few minutes. BJ decided that she had been sitting in there long enough and stopped the swing. When he went to lock it in place so he could get her out, she all of a sudden started screaming like we had ruined her day completely. And not just screaming, she had tears streaming down her face. Definitely a different cry from what we normally hear out of her. It was hard not to laugh. After comforting her and getting her to settle down, we've come to realize that she is probably going to be our more sensitive child. It's going to be fun to seeing her personality blossom over the next few months.
