Snow Day

Last week we finally had a day filled with fun in the snow. Well, at least part of the day was anyways. As what seems to be the norm around here, the snow didn’t last long. The kids had fun though. This was Dayson’s first year of really being able to play in it. Last year he just mainly looked around and didn’t understand what all the white stuff was. This year though, after getting past his reservations and his annoyance that it was sticking to his feet, he had a blast. He loved it so much that when I tried to bring him inside, he threw the biggest tantrum that I’ve seen out of him yet.

Iyana enjoyed herself too with showing her brother all the different things you can do with snow. Her biggest thing she wanted to do was build a snowman. She had it up and ready for me to take a picture when little brother came running along. As soon as I got the camera up and focused, Dayson came up behind it and completely knocked it over while laughing. Thankfully, Iyana is a good sport and it didn’t bother her. They then decided to make a game of tearing it apart.

It was a great day for the kids. Both were happy and exhausted when finally coming inside for the day. Dayson wanted so badly to eat lunch, but when I looked over, this is what I saw.

At least he was able to finish his sandwich before passing out. Wish it would snow more often, this is a great way to burn a lot of his energy. Needless to say, he took a wonderful nap (and so did mommy☺).

New Hobby

Iyana has started a new hobby...knitting! She has a friend who likes to knit and so she wanted to give it a try as well. Come to find out, she's very good at it. For Christmas she got a loom set and started right away working on a hat project.

It took her just a little over three hours (with no help from the parents). Here is her first creation.

Such a cute little hat! She's using it as a doll hat right now since it's way to small for Dayson. Her next project is a baby hat for a friends little girl. She's so excited that she's able to make these now.

16 Months

I'm a few days late getting this up, but happy 16 month birthday Dayson! Getting your picture this time around was not easy. You kept grabbing the paper and running away with it. You are very much a toddler who wants to be a big kid like your sister. Everything she does, you think you can do as well.

Currently, you weigh about 25 pounds. My scale kept flickering back and forth between numbers and for you to sit long enough for it to really register, that was asking a lot. So, your weight is a rough estimate this month. Your height is 31 inches. Even though the numbers aren't showing a big growth spurt, you sure feel like you've gotten bigger. No longer do I have a little baby to snuggle with but a growing boy who is over half my height already. This past month you've really gotten into giving us kisses. Since you're not much of a snuggler any more, your kisses more than make up for what we're missing.

On most nights, you still sleep through. This past week though has brought back the dreaded middle of the night wake up calls along with sleeping out in the living room. With four cuspids (or eye teeth) coming in at once, you have been miserable. So miserable that you have been taking out your pain on everyone. Hitting has become a really big thing this month along with throwing yourself on the floor and slapping your hands down in anger. That of course isn't always due to teething pain, we've hit the early stages of the terrible twos. Your doctor was surprised at some of the things that you are already doing, saying that normally that doesn't happen until closer to two years old. I'll take that as a good sign that you are maturing just fine.

You still love to eat almost anything and everything. With your teeth coming in though, I've actually seen you back off on some things. It's almost distressing to me to not see you eat much. I'm so used to you being finished first and wanting seconds, that seeing you with still half a plate and no appetite had us worried for a bit. Fortunately, that only lasted for a couple of days and you seem to be making a come back. In fact, a couple of things that you did this past month for which I can laugh at now were: getting up on the table and eating pepper straight from the shaker (you actually liked it!) and quietly getting into the pantry and stuffing your face full of marshmallows as quickly as you could. Needless to say, you weren't very happy when I took the bag away from you.

We're slowly starting to understand you more and more. You still would prefer to sign your words or pull us around and point rather than say much. A few words that you will say are: mama, dada, ball, bar, bye, hi or hello, woof woof for dog, more, and bath. You still have a great love for climbing anything, running all over, wrestling, taking baths or anything that has to do with water, going to church and seeing your friends (as long as your not put in the nursery) and playing a grammy's house. Your activity level and busyness keep us on the go all the time. There's never a dull moment around here. We love you little man!

Had to include this one. Iyana was playing with her kid glasses and Dayson off course had to try them as well. It took a couple of times to get the picture and keep him from grabbing them, but I think the picture turned out pretty cute ☺.
